Abstract oil paintings hung on the dark red walls in garish gilded frames. A thick, dark carpet covered the floor beneath my feet in a horrid art nouveau pattern of yellows and greens. Everything around me appeared expensive, though quite gaudy. It seemed whoever owned it all had plenty of money, but no taste whatsoever.
